Majestic Great White Shark swimming beneath the sea surface

Description: The Great White Shark, also known as Carcharodon carcharias, reflects beneath the sea surface. This majestic predator cruises the waters near Geyser Rock and Dyer Island off the coast of South Africa. This region is home to numerous African penguins, cormorants, and a large colony of Cape fur seals. As a top predator, the Great White Shark plays a crucial role in the ecological balance of the seas. Recent research indicates that these fascinating creatures undertake vast migrations. Despite their impressive appearance and important position in the food chain, much remains unknown about the behavior and habitat of Great White Sharks. Nearly unchanged for millions of years, these sharks have adapted perfectly to their environment. However, their population is severely declining worldwide. In 2004, the Great White Shark was listed in Appendix II of the Washington Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) to enhance their protection and regulate trade in these captivating animals. The future of these fascinating creatures remains uncertain.
