Description: The African Wild Dog, scientifically known as Lycaon pictus, is a fascinating predator also referred to as the Painted Wolf. These wild dogs are rare and live in packs in the savannahs of Africa south of the Sahara. Puppies are born with black fur and irregular white spots before developing yellow-brown colors later on. Adult African Wild Dogs reach a shoulder height of 60 to 70 centimeters and weigh between 15 and 30 kilograms. They are critically endangered and mostly found in large wildlife reserves.
