Majestic African Elephant in Full Frontal View

Description: The African Elephant, scientifically known as Loxodonta africana, is the largest land animal on Earth. This majestic creature is renowned for its distinctive trunk and tusks. There are two subspecies of African Elephants, the Savanna Elephant Loxodonta africana africana and the Forest Elephant Loxodonta africana cyclotis. The Savanna Elephant inhabits the dry forests and savannas of Africa, reaching a shoulder height of nearly three meters and weighing up to 7.5 tons. Illegal ivory trade has decimated elephant populations significantly. Since 1989, the international trade of ivory has been banned, yet the primary threat to African Elephants today is the loss of their habitat due to the expansion of agricultural lands.
