Description: The African Elephant, scientific name Loxodonta africana, is one of the most majestic animals in the world. This fascinating creature inhabits the savannas and dry forests of Africa. The African Elephant is the largest land mammal on Earth, boasting a shoulder height of nearly three meters and weighing up to 7.5 tons. The two subspecies, the savanna elephant and the forest elephant, are critically endangered due to ivory trade and habitat loss. Since the international ban on ivory trade in 1989, the expansion of agricultural lands has become a major threat to African Elephants.
